The 2017 Honda Pilot is the second model year of what's now the third-generation of this midsize crossover. If you're looking for a stylish, capable family crossover with plenty of power, storage and comfort for a beach trip, the Pilot has to be at the top of your list of models to check out. If you're in the Friendswood area and thinking of visiting us here at Honda of Clear Lake to check out and test drive the latest Honda Pilot, here's what you can expect.
Whether we like it or not, looking good at the beach is pretty important to a lot of people, and the 2017 Honda Pilot will definitely get you off on the right foot in that direction. Last year's introduction of the third-generation really was a complete overhaul, and the Pilot is now a legitimately good looking vehicle by anyone's measure. There are undeniable elements of the Accord sedan inside the Pilot, as well as some utility touches undoubtedly borrowed from the massive-selling CR-V. The overall look of the Honda's exterior is now more rounded, elegant and sculpted than it used to be, but without looking too fussy or musclebound.
No getting stuck
If you like to enjoy the beach away from the crowds you might not want to park miles away and walk from a parking lot with all your stuff, so it could mean having to drive and stop on the sand. If you don't have the right vehicle that could be a big problem, especially if you get stuck and the tide is coming in! It's not a problem here with the Honda Pilot though, thanks to its outstanding intelligent Variable Torque Management (i-VTM4TM) all-wheel drive system that's available for all trim levels of 2017 Honda Pilot. Then there's the Intelligent Traction management system for EX models and above that Honda even advertises a perfect for driving to secluded beaches. With just the push of a button it allows you to select your driving mode so the Pilot will optimize handling based on the terrain you find yourself on.
There are five different trim levels of Honda Pilot available right now, which means all the creature comforts you could want for a day at the beach for up to eight people are in the range somewhere. The entry model is the LX, and from there the range goes upwards through EX, EX-L, Touring and finally onto the top-of-the-line Elite model. There's clever storage throughout all versions of the Pilot, including a sliding lid that covers a center console so deep you could lose a small bag or phone in there.
Power to cope
Although the Pilot is classed as a midsize, a full load of eight people and all the stuff they'll be taking with them on a trip to the beach is going to mean a good amount of power is going to be needed. The Pilot certainly isn’t found wanting as all models come with the same highly capable 3.5-liter V-6 that puts an impressive 280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque at your disposal. All models up to and including the EX-L come with a standard six-speed automatic transmission, but Touring and Elite models get a superb nine-speed automatic as part of standard equipment.
Whether you regularly go on trips to the beach or you just want a fantastic family crossover, it's hard to look beyond the sensational 2017 Honda Pilot.
